Introduction to Beekeeping Course 2025

Due to the popularity of beekeeping, our 2025 Beginners’ Course is already full. We recognise that this might be disappointing, however,  we are organising a short course on Sunday 23rd March and repeated on Sunday 13th April 2025.

The course is approximately 2 hours long and limited to 10 people. It is aimed at those who are serious about starting this hobby, helps answer basic questions and gets you to think about the implications of keeping honeybees and what you must consider.   We can recommend some reading material and talk through your potential location, type of hive, honeybee welfare needs, including prevalent notifiable diseases and pests in the Cambridgeshire area and what you need to do to prepare.

It is not a replacement for a beginners course, which we still encourage you to do, but it will reduce expensive mistakes and enhance the welfare of honeybees should you want to continue.

The course is located at our apiary at Hinchingbrooke Park and we will show you the equipment you will need, a basic understanding of honeybee development and needs, an opportunity to open and practice on a demonstration hive (not with bees) and an opportunity to talk through your ideas with two experienced beekeepers.

Price is £30 per person.  Please book your place using the form below and you will then receive an email from our Treasurer providing details of how to pay.  Please note that this is non-refundable even if you change your mind or you cannot attend the course.

If you have any queries, please email our Apiary Manager.
